Russia officially invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022. In an attempt to conquer de capital, the Russian Army attacked the city of Kyiv, the towns and cities in Kyiv Oblast and parts of Zhytomyr Oblast.
Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes, cities or country, those who remained sought their safety in bomb shelters and subway tunnels, while the Ukrainian army and volunteers defended the capital with optimism and resilience.
A year later the war is far from over. Russia's attempt to conquer the country was met with fierce resistance by the Ukrainian people - who continue to fight for their country.
The capital is repeatedly under attack from drones or missiles - although most are intercepted or destroyed before they can cause the destruction they were intended for - the city and its people still suffer the consequences and the loss of defending from the attacks.
